Red nail polish is a bit like the little black dress in her dressing room… A must-have! Whether you adopt it in classic varnish, on fake nails or semi-permanent, it’s a safe bet that will dress your hands in a color that is both cheerful and elegant. In short, it’s all good. But be careful, when we talk about “red varnish”, we are not talking about burgundy varnish nor coral but red as the primary color. And it’s not a new shade since it has been around since the 19th century.
The history of red varnish
At the time, we used a coloring oil and not an opaque lacquer like today’s varnish. Red nail polish is not new, however, it reached its peak thanks to actress Rita Hayworth in the 1940s. The American caused a sensation by wearing it on long almond nails and is associated with now in the panoply of the femme fatale. Half a century later, it remains timeless, surviving all manicure trends. The creator Christian Louboutin was inspired by it at the end of the 90s to adorn the soles of his shoes. Today, it-girls wear this shade of nail polish, summer and winter, ensuring maximum effect (thanks to its flamboyant color) for minimum effort (it’s an easy choice, available in all brands varnishes and all beauty salons).
How to wear red nail polish?
Bright, classic red never goes out of fashion because it adapts. It can be worn on both short and long nails, on all nail shapes, all skin tones and for multiple occasions. Both seductive and refined, opting for carmine red nails is always a good idea.
