In the columns of the Sunday Times, American actress Renée Zellweger spoke about the dictates of beauty before encouraging women to accept their age.

Notably known for her role as a single thirty-year-old in the romantic comedy “Bridget Jones’s Diary” released in 2001, the actress Renee Zellweger is now 53 years old. A number that she proudly assumes and that she was even looking forward to. That’s all she said in an interview released by the Sunday Times on Sunday August 7, 2022. “I couldn’t wait to be 50! I loved it, she explains. It made me realize that I have absolutely no interest in being 23. And for good reason, “turning 50 was like a brand new start. This is when you stop listening to those voices in your head and worrying about all those expectations and projections people have of you. You become authentically more yourself.”

Rage against anti-aging ads

According to the actress – who a few years ago denied having had cosmetic surgery – accepting her age also means making peace with her image. She also takes the opportunity to rant against the diktats of beauty imposed on women, in particular through the advertisements of so-called anti-aging cosmetics. “All these ads telling us that we don’t have to look our age…I’m like, ‘what, are you suggesting that because I’m 53, I’m worthless? Is that what? what you say ?” asks Renée Zellweger. “There is a huge difference between wanting to be the best version of yourself and wanting to be someone else (…). As long as we accept the idea that society is obsessed with youth, then we perpetuate it,” she laments. And to conclude: “to be beautiful and dazzling, you must embrace your age. If you don’t, it’s like apologizing for living. And that, for me, is anything but beautiful.
