On social media, press-on-nails are everywhere. Zoom on this quick, economical and reusable trick.

What are press-on-nails?

On social networks – especially on TikTok – press-on-nails (which could be translated as “nails to press”) are making their revolution. As if by magic, beautistas reveal trendy manicures in no time, at home without the help of a pro. “It’s a technique that allows you to stick, on natural nails, fake nails already ready to pose. They apply a few millimeters from the cuticle and adhere in seconds. It’s a quick technique for busy women who want an immediate effect. It’s an express false nail application! “, explains Diane Kraemer, CEO of the Ardell brand, world leader in false eyelashes, which unveils its first press-on-nails collection called Nails Addict.

How to apply and remove press-on-nails?

On the installation and removal side, there are several techniques. Before opting for one of the two methods, it is important to thoroughly clean and sand down your natural nails. Some brands opt for “gel pads” – kinds of double-sided sticky patches that correspond to each nail – which are applied to the natural nail. Then just put the false nail on it and keep it pressed for a few seconds. Another solution: glue. “You have to apply a thin layer of glue on the natural nail then place the false nail on the natural nail and press it firmly for 10 to 15 seconds”, teaches Diane Kraemer. For removal, several choices are available to you. At Ardell, for example, it is recommended to use a melting solution which will directly dissolve the false nails. But for the majority of brands in the nail art market, press-on-nails are removed using hot water and oil. A method that allows them to be reused at will.

How long does it last

Press-on-nails can last up to 3 weeks at best.

How well to choose press-on-nails?

We recommend to carefully select the model (length, nail shape) then treat yourself. Once the model has been chosen, it is important to select the false nail that corresponds to the size of each natural nail. If the length of the press-on-nails is too long, it is possible to shorten them using the files included in the kit”, advises the expert.

3 reasons to choose for presses-on-nails rather than for a manicure in an institute

Because it’s cheaper and faster… This is undoubtedly one of the big advantages of this technique. Press-on-nails are relatively less expensive than a pose of semi-permanent varnish orgel nails. Similarly, this method lasts about ten minutes when it takes more than an hour for a service in an institute. However, their lifespan is very short-lived.

Because it’s reusable… Another advantage: they can be reused. Once removed from the nail, you just have to clean the glue residues well and store them in their box. Practice !

Because it damages less… According to experts, this method would damage the nails less. Less resistant than a salon manicure, press-on-nails are easily removed and therefore do not weaken natural nails.
