When we thought that TikTok could no longer surprise us, the application proves us the opposite. For the past few weeks, a new trend has been making the buzz. Its concept? Apply a menstrual blood mask to the face. Yes, you read that right. On the platform, the hashtag #periodbloodfacemask has accumulated more than 800 thousand views at the time of writing these lines. A phenomenon that increasingly worries skin experts.
The menstrual mask: the trend too many
Presented as a revolutionary homemade skin care, the menstrual mask has many virtues according to users. Stem cells and nutrients present in the blood would be necessary for the needs of our skin and our body. Justifications that have absolutely not convinced dermatologists. Worse still, some are worried about the virality of this trend and warn of a potential danger. On her TikTok account, Joyce Park, dermatologist and founder of the Skin Refinery teledermatology clinic decided to react: “Don’t do this, I beg you. There is no proven benefit. It is not the same as a vampire lift”. The expert specifies that “menstrual blood is a mixture of epithelial cells from the uterine lining, white blood cells and red blood cells”, but also bacteria. In summary, if the blood is contaminated with an infection, applying it to his face will also infect the skin. Besides its repulsive appearance, there is therefore really no good reason to inflict this dangerous tendency on yourself.
