PREFER THE MINERAL
All SPF 50 formulas offer proven efficacy against UVA and UVB rays, but their mode of action varies. Chemical filters have molecules that penetrate the skin to absorb the rays instead of our cells, after 15 to 20 minutes. Authorized for so-called “traditional” sunscreens in supermarkets or drugstores, they are prohibited in organic products because they are of petrochemical origin and suspected of being allergenic and harmful to the environment. Mineral filters of natural origin – zinc oxide and titanium dioxide – remain on the surface of the skin and reflect the rays like a mirror, for immediate effectiveness. “As they hardly penetrate and are well tolerated, they are particularly suitable for the fragile skin of children and babies,” says Aurore Amiable, scientific director of the Phyt’s brand. And their “water resistant” property is ideal for summer activities. »
THE BENEFIT OF SPECIAL KIDS FORMULAS
Often more difficult to spread, especially with fidgety children, mineral filters leave a white-gray film. Convenient to check if you have not forgotten an area, but difficult to remove in the shower. Cleanse the face and body every evening using a glove and hypoallergenic soap ora shower oil to dissolve sunscreen residue. Then hydrate to replenish the hydrolipidic barrier, damaged by the sun, salt, chlorine or sand. » The right reflex: choose a sunscreen adapted to the age of the child, enriched with vegetal oils (sesame, argan, jojoba) which ensure a better “slipperiness” and strengthen the skin barrier.
ONE CREAM IS NOT ENOUGH
We apply large hazelnuts of cream every two hours and after each swim, without forgetting to put on a cap and a T-shirt. “We must be extra vigilant for children under 3 whose skin is more vulnerable to the harmful effects of UV rays. The latter have a greater surface area of skin than adults in relation to their body mass.
